5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I waited! July 20, 2012

I've been waiting for a true high resolution tablet for a while mostly because I will use this to browse news sites/Google Maps and I prefer a screen with more resolution/definition.. This tablet actually has more resolution than a full-HD (1900x1080) screen , it is a WUXGA (1920x1200). Well, I'm very glad I waited. The screen is just beautiful with excellent viewing angles and coincidentally has as much screen real-estate as each one of my desktop's three 24-inch DELL monitors (exactly 1920x1200). One of my Dells is on portrait (vertical) mode for viewing entire websites at once (and 1:1 PDF's) and let me tell you, the TF700 is as good if not better due to the increased density (ppi) and flexibility. I'm truly impressed. I know the New iPad has slightly better resolution but I'm definitely a Google person and am heavily invested into the Google ecosystem (my phone, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Voice, GDrive, etc) so iOS is not even an option.
It is obvious to me that the TF700 is what the transformer Prime should have been; everything has been fixed and improved here. I did find some cons, though but first let me list the pros:

PROS
-beautiful true HD screen, very bright and responsive
-excellent WiFi reception, I get 14 Mbps (2.4Ghz band) and 5 bars in places where my other devices (Galaxy Nexus, laptop, iPod Touch) only get 3-4 bars
-best GPS reception I've seen. I was able to lock 11 satellites in less than 10 seconds in my kitchen (with a regular double pane window)! My Nexus only locks 8.
-really fast UI (Ice Cream Sandwich), not as fast as my Galaxy Nexus phone with Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1) but way better than other tablets I've used. Most important to me, there is no UI overlay to slow down things, just pure Android experience the way Google envisioned it.
-really nice oleophobic screen coating, minimal if any fingerprints noticeable after heavy use.

CONS
-proprietary 40-pin USB connector, really ASUS? really? Adding one more connector to worry about.. just when I thought micro-USB was king. I suspect the connector is necessary for the dock but it is such a pitb. I have 5 micro USB chargers strategically placed around my house and cars but with this one ASUS threw me a monkey- wrench!
-no 5Ghz WiFi-N band! a real disappointment. 5Ghz may not have the wall-penetrating power of 2.4Ghz but it is way faster than 2.4Ghz. Even my Galaxy Nexus phone has a N-5Ghz band that gets up to 25Mbps WiFi speeds.
-comes with some ASUS bloatware. Some you can disable thanks to ICS but some you cannot.

Let me add something about the speaker. The sound is very clear, sharp and fairly loud for its size. The fact that it is behind near the tapered bezel can make it difficult to hear if you put your hands over it however, this would ALSO happen even if they put the speaker(s) on front. The sound itself is technically good for a tablet this thin and sleek. It seems to me that they had to compromise with the location because there is no space on the front side (full glass surface) and moving it to another side would make no difference since people will use it on both portrait and landscape orientations. People should be realistic regarding their expectations.

So, is this the perfect tablet? there is no such a thing and I can almost assure you there will never be one but as of now, summer of 2012, this is the best Android tablet your hard earned money can buy. Overall this is an excellent tablet and I'm very happy I waited.
